Christchurch's weekend market scene continues to give local makers a direct line to customers. The Riccarton Bush Market on Saturdays and the Lyttelton Farmers Market on Saturday mornings remain the two anchor events of the week.

Smaller markets at the Arts Centre, Opawa and Hagley Park have all built loyal followings, often featuring a mix of food stalls, ceramics, prints and seasonal produce. Many stallholders say direct sales now make up a meaningful share of their annual income.

Several makers spoken to said the markets are as much about community as commerce. Repeat customers, conversations with other stallholders and feedback on new ranges have all helped them refine their work.

A current list of weekend markets is maintained by the Council's events calendar and by individual market organisers' social channels.
