Pre-season training is well under way at Canterbury's premier club rugby sides, with Christchurch, Lincoln University, Sydenham and Sumner all confirming squad lists for the upcoming Hawkins Metro competition.

Defending champions said the focus this pre-season has been on conditioning and game management, with several Crusaders Academy players also turning out at club level as part of their development pathway.

Women's club rugby continues to grow, with the Canterbury Rugby Football Union confirming an expanded competition structure. Several clubs reported their strongest registration numbers in the women's grades to date.

The first competition matches are scheduled for early next month. Full draws and live scoring will be available through the Canterbury Rugby website ahead of round one.
