A woman was taken to hospital following a water incident at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre in Christchurch, facility management confirmed. The nature and severity of her injuries were not immediately disclosed, and Christchurch City Council said it would be conducting a review of the circumstances.

Parakiore, which opened in 2023 as one of New Zealand's most significant new aquatic infrastructure investments, is located near Hagley Park and serves as a major community and competitive swimming facility for Canterbury. The $147 million centre features multiple pools, hydroslides, and learn-to-swim facilities and attracts thousands of visitors weekly.

Emergency services were called to the centre in response to the incident. The woman was assessed on site before being transported to Christchurch Hospital. Her condition and subsequent update were not publicly disclosed.

Centre management confirmed that facility protocols were followed and that staff responded in accordance with their training and emergency procedures. The centre's lifeguard team, which includes some of Christchurch's most experienced water safety professionals, was commended for their prompt response.
