Community groups in New Brighton are stepping up plans for a busier summer of events, with the Brighton Mall and pier area earmarked for a series of weekend markets, music sessions and family days between November and March.
The Renew Brighton trust, which has coordinated activations along the mall for several years, said it is working with the Coastal-Burwood Community Board to expand the programme. A new lighting installation along the pier approach is also being trialled over summer.
Local business owners told the Bulletin that consistent weekend programming has historically translated into a meaningful lift in trade, and that even smaller events — such as the monthly Seaside Market — bring noticeable benefits.
Residents interested in volunteering or hosting a stall can contact Renew Brighton directly. Funding for grassroots events is also available through the community board's small grants round, which opens twice a year.
