Several new family-focused initiatives are launching across Christchurch this term, including expanded after-school programmes in the eastern suburbs and free holiday workshops at Tūranga and the South Library.
The Council's strengthening communities team confirmed funding for fifteen new initiatives, ranging from parenting support groups in Aranui to a youth leadership programme based out of Hornby High School. Most run free of charge for participants.
Plunket and the Canterbury District Health Board's wellbeing teams are also offering additional drop-in clinics in suburban community centres. Staff said the relocations were intended to make services easier to access for families without reliable transport.
Families looking for current programme listings can search the Council's My Christchurch website or contact their local community centre. Most term programmes require registration in advance, particularly those running over the school holidays.
